Program Details 

Werribee Mercy Hospital facilitates the clinical component of this 12 month course in conjunction with the College of Nursing by distance education

Werribee Mercy Hospital is planning to increase our capacity from 4 theatres and an endoscopy unit to 6 theatres and 2 endoscopy units in order to meet the growing demand for our perioperative services. We currently average around 640 operations per month and cover a wide variety of specialties: - General, laparoscopic, ENT, Urology, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Orthopaedic, Vascular, Dental, Specialist Paediatric, Endoscopy.

Successful applicants will rotate through all areas of the perioperative environment – the Instrumentation and Circulating role, the Anaesthetic role and the Recovery role. Mercy Health currently have an agreement with Barwon Health where our perioperative students experience cardiac surgery over a placement in the Geelong theatres. This placement is a worthwhile experience for our students and well received. 

Students are employed for a minimum of 24 hours per week (by negotiation with previous perioperative experience) to a maximum of 36 hours per week. The program starts in February and runs for a period of 12 months.
