Improving the health and wellbeing of families

Mercy Health OConnell Family Centre has been selected as a finalist in the Department of Education and Early Childhood Developments 2013 Early Years Awards, which recognise outstanding achievements in the early childhood sector. The centre was nominated for creating the Maroondah Early Parenting Program: A partnership model, a comprehensive two week sleep and settling program for vulnerable families with infants from birth to twelve months of age.

The innovative program works with families in their home environment, increasing their confidence and capacity to make informed decisions about their childs physical, social and emotional development. The Centres early parenting educators provide intensive support and education throughout the program helping families to identify issues that may be impacting on settling their infant. The program focuses on vulnerable families in Maroondah including very young parents, those known to the Victorian Child Protection Service and the communitys refugee families.

Mercy Health congratulates Mercy Health OConnell Family Centre staff for their hard work and dedication to improving the health and wellbeing of children and their families. Winners of the 2013 Early Years Awards will be announced by Minister for Children and Early Childhood Development, The Hon Wendy Lovell MLC on 22 October.
