Mercy Health Foundation raises funds for clinical research, scholarships and unique projects to foster the constant improvement of care. Each project supported by the Foundation creates unique opportunities for Mercy Health to provide care and better understand the changing healthcare needs across our community.
A project milestone was the opening of
Mercy Health Breastmilk Bank in 2011. A first for Victoria, the bank collects breastmilk from mothers who have had a baby at Mercy Hospital for Women then screens, pasteurises and delivers the donated milk to sick and premature babies in the hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Special Care Nursery.
The Foundation has been pivotal in establishing the Sheila Handbury Chair of Maternal Fetal Medicine at Mercy Hospital for Women. This position is a first for Australia and acts as a focus for research, teaching and training in maternal fetal medicine. The Foundation also played a key role in establishing
Australia's first Chair of Aged Care to conduct research in aged care and foster links between clinicians, academics and the industry.
