After the birth and going home

  • Our midwives will assist and support you and your partner to become confident in all aspects of baby care. We encourage you and your baby to stay together (rooming in) at all times. As your carers, we are committed to the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding. We seek to assist you and your baby to establish breastfeeding and to maintain your milk supply. We have a high standard of education and ensure that the care and advice given to you is consistent.

Physiotherapy postnatal classes at Werribee Mercy Hospital are held in the  in the Maternity Unit everyday at 10am (except weekends and public holidays). Please call the physiotherapy department at 8754 3150 on the day to confirm that the class is still going ahead before you come.  Women are welcome to attend a class at any stage after birth. Babies and partners are also welcome. The physiotherapy postnatal class is a single educational session designed to educate postnatal women about issues such as rest, ice and compression after delivery, pelvic floor muscle exercises, good bowel habits, and core abdominal muscle strengthening. The classes are provided free of charge and bookings are not required.

After you have had your baby the midwife will discuss your length of stay with you. Midwives will also visit you and your baby at home for postnatal care.
