Harmony Day

On Wednesday 20 and Thursday 21 March, Mercy Health joined many other organisations around the globe to celebrate Harmony Day. The day is marked to promote and celebrate inclusiveness, respect and cultural diversity within the workplace.

With almost half of Australia’s population hailing from overseas, it is important to formally acknowledge how our differences make both our workplace and country stronger. The theme for 2019 was #everyonebelongs.

Mercy Health employees originate from more than 100 countries, come from more than 80 different cultural backgrounds and speak more than 70 languages, which means we have a wonderfully diverse workforce.

A culturally diverse workforce brings with it a broader range of skills and contributes to improved decision-making, increased innovation, creativity and better performance outcomes.

To celebrate the diversity in our workforce, Mercy Health created a digital recipe book consisting of recipes contributed by employees. Staff were also treated to a spectacular feast from Hamed’s Persian Kitchen, owned and run by Hamed Allahyari. Hamed inspired everyone with the story of his brave escape from Iran and subsequent immigration to Australia.
