International Women’s Day

Sunday 8 March marks International Women’s Day and Mercy Health has been busy celebrating at various events across the organisation this week. Mercy Health joins many others around the world who use this day as an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of women while calling for greater equality.

The theme for 2020 is Each for Equal and focuses on the understanding that gender equality is essential for economies and communities to thrive. Gender equality benefits everyone.

As part of our International Women’s Day celebrations we heard from some of Mercy Health’s empowering women including Werribee Mercy Hospital Interpreter Christina George, who spoke of the inspirational women in her life as well as her own story of migrating to Australia. Mercy Hospital for Women Project Director, Family Violence and Child Safety Standards Jeanette Cameron provided an informative presentation on the connection between gender equality and family violence, and the great work that is being achieved as part of the Strengthening Hospitals Response to Family Violence.  Thank you to all those who attended these events.
