More than 100 jobs available at Ballarat’s new aged care home

The new Mercy Place Ballarat residential aged care home is seeking the right staff to fill more than 100 jobs ahead of its expected opening in September 2018.

A variety of roles are available to suit individual needs, ranging from full-time, permanent part-time to casual opportunities. Among the many roles available is the newly created position of Care Companion, which marks a move away from the traditional model of aged care to a more holistic approach that promotes independence, choice and relationships.

Mercy Health Recruitment Manager Emma Cotsell says this is a great opportunity for Ballarat residents to work for a reputable aged care provider.

“It takes a special person to work in aged care so we are seeking compassionate, friendly and caring individuals to work with us,” says Ms Cotsell.

“We need aged care professionals. At the same time, we also need people with different skills sets and experiences such as cooking and housekeeping, as well as those who love working with older people.”

“For the first time we will be accepting video applications uploaded to YouTube as well as written applications.”

Catering for 112 residents in 14 small households, Mercy Place Ballarat is the first aged care home by Mercy Health to be purpose-built around the concept of small household living. Research shows aged care residents, especially those living with dementia, enjoy better quality of life and experience fewer hospital admissions when they live in small home-like clusters. 1

Ms Cotsell says the small household living approach will enable staff to support residents to live a more fulfilling life based on their individual needs.

“Staff will also be able to enjoy a range of employee benefits including salary packaging, health and wellbeing initiatives, and support for career progression,” says Ms Cotsell.

Mercy Health employs people from many cultures and backgrounds, irrespective of their beliefs. The Catholic organisation has been consistently recognised as an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality by the Workplace Gender Equality Agency.
