Mercy Health welcomes Professor Brett Manley as our inaugural Professor of Neonatal Medicine and Director of Neonatal Research.
Professor Manley, an international leader in newborn medicine, brings extensive experience and expertise to our neonatal team.
A consultant neonatologist, Professor Manley’s research has transformed the management of newborn respiratory distress syndrome, a leading challenge for preterm infants. As co-Principal Investigator of the recent international PLUSS trial, Brett explored the use of steroids in extremely preterm infants. Published in JAMA this month, the study revealed that while early steroid use may not significantly impact chronic lung disease outcomes, it poses no harm—a critical finding for guiding care decisions.
Professor Manley’s appointment was made possible through our partnership with the University of Melbourne and Mercy Perinatal. This collaboration strengthens our commitment to advancing neonatal research and providing world-class care. We welcome Professor Manley to our outstanding neonatal team!
