Stories have now been recounted on a number of occasions by Victorian front line health workers about the pain that accompanies any decision to isolate COVID patients from their loved ones.
Such a situation prompted Emergency Department staff at Heidelberg’s Mercy Hospital for Women recently to order a couple of the top of the range baby monitors so that family members could at least chat with their loved ones in quarantine. As well the monitors are useful for staff who are separated due to isolation arrangements.
When a Nurse Unit Manager from the Mercy Hospital for Women attempted to purchase the two units worth $430, the response from Michelle in the Preston Baby Bunting store was that she would like to personally donate the monitors.
When contacted, Michelle said Mercy Hospital for Women is “our local hospital”.
‘We regularly have mothers making purchases from our store after additions have occurred in their families and we have an appreciation for what front line staff have been confronting over the past two years,” she said.
Mercy Health’s Mary McCarthy said the monitors served numerous purposes but it was the reaction of Michelle that staff had found uplifting.
Michelle asked that we not publish her surname nor was she was interested in posing for a photograph for Mercy’s internal media publications.
“It was an instinctive choice to express some gratitude for our healthcare front line workers. They are the heroes,” said Michelle.
