Western United star goalkeeper Jamie Young brought the Isuzu UTE A-League Championship Trophy to Werribee Mercy Hospital yesterday, following the Green and Blacks’ famous Grand Final victory in May this year.

Renowned as one of the A-League competition’s safest pair of hands, Jamie Young has acknowledged both the personal support of Mercy Health and the support extended to the club as a whole.

Jamie lifted the trophy with Mercy Health Chief Executive Health Services Prof Jason Payne and Werribee Mercy Hospital General Manager Maree Pane.

At the start of 2021/22 A-League season, Mercy Health became the official Health and Aged Care Partner of Western United Men’s team, with both parties keen to share and celebrate each other’s growth and successes.

WMH General Manager Maree Pane said it was exciting to have the trophy on show and to have Jamie on site meeting some of his biggest fans among WMH patients, visitors and staff.

“We are proud of our reputation with the people of the west providing the best in health care,” Maree said. “It is great to have a partnership and association with Western United and its star defender, who is also recognised as one of the best on field for the Green and Blacks.

“Our patients, visitors and staff welcomed the opportunity to have photographs taken with Jamie and the silverware, and we also wish both the club’s men’s and women’s teams, the very best for the season ahead.” Maree said.

Jamie added that it was important for the people of the west to have top class health care with professionals that really care for their patients.

“This helps grow and strengthen the community which supports us on game day,” he said.

During the upcoming season, Western United’s newly established women’s team will compete for the first time in the Liberty A-League Women’s competition.

Vying for a place in the starting line-up will be young Calder goalkeeper Alyssa Dall’Oste who also attended the trophy celebration at WMH.

Western United opened its 2022/23 season with a Grand Final replay against Melbourne City and on Sunday plays its first home game against Sydney FC at AAMI Park.
