Mercy Health strengthens its quality improvement and clinical governance

Mercy Health has a long and proud history of providing health and aged care services across Australia. For over 100 years we have worked at continuously improving and innovating the care we provide and this dedication to always strive for excellence in care for the people we serve, is the cornerstone of our longevity.

In May 2023, we commenced an organisation-wide review of our clinical governance structure and since then have been implementing recommendations from that report.

In September 2023 Safer Care Victoria (SCV) in partnership with Mercy Health undertook a clinical governance review of Werribee Mercy Hospital and Mercy Mental Health and Wellbeing Services. Mercy Health has now received the final Report.

The findings from the two reviews identified areas of improvement regarding structure, systems, processes and culture at Mercy Health and are informing a program of transformation across quality and safety models.

These reviews have not been conducted following any individual or individual care cases, but rather a commitment to continuous improvement.

Angela Nolan, Mercy Health Group CEO, welcomes the findings from the SCV review and accepts them in full: “The recommendations enhance our approach to continuous improvement across the organisation. We are committed to working together as a team, empowered with the single-minded intention to do better for our people, our community, our consumers, our partners – all those we serve.”

Mercy Health has established a Steering Committee to oversee the transformation work across risk management, leaderships and culture, consumer partnerships, clinical practice, and workforce. The Steering Committee and working groups will be responsible for ensuring the change is implemented and will receive input from stakeholders including from staff, our patients and their families.

Mercy Health is deeply grateful to our patients and staff for their participation in this review. We are committed to improving the safety and quality of care we provide.
