Werribee Mercy Hospital to be gifted largest ever donation

  • Read in 1 minute

The Werribee Hospital Foundation has announced it will make a $400,000 donation to Werribee Mercy Hospital’s Critical Care Unit.

The Werribee Hospital Foundation, through the generous support of locals, has for nearly 30 years provided funding solely for the public hospital service in Wyndham, and this will be one of the largest donations that it has ever made.

Foundation Chairman, Nik Tsardakis, said the hospital expansion, which was officially launched by Minister for Health Jill Hennessy and Member for Werribee Tim Pallas on Friday 11 March 2017, is vital for the Wyndham community.

“Our community wants access to the very best public hospital care locally and that is reflected in the support and donations we have received over the years,” Mr Tsardakis said.

“The hospital’s expansion of 56 additional beds, six operating theatres and eight critical care beds is an exciting development in our community. This will be the first time critical care will be available in Wyndham and it will allow families to be closer to their loved ones if they require intensive medical care.”

Members of the Werribee Hospital Foundation include: Jan Goates, Dr Jason Goh, Daniel McDonald, Jim Giannopoulos, Caroline Radowski and Callum Scott.

The Werribee Hospital Foundation, in conjunction with the Mercy Health Foundation, is seeking to raise $2 million to furnish and equip the Critical Care Unit and build a rooftop wellness garden to aid in patient recovery.

The Foundations require the support of individuals, businesses and organisations in Wyndham to help meet their fundraising goal. An Appeals Committee has been established and is being chaired by Mr Peter Mayall. Anyone interested in helping the Committee or making a donation, can call the Appeals Manager Alun Evans on 0475 506 851 or email aevans@mercy.com.au
