John Gordon Killick OAM, an 88-year-old Galong resident, was formally recognised for his lifetime of quiet service to the Galong and broader Hilltops community.
The private Order of Australia presentation was held at Mercy Care Centre in Young and attended by representatives from the Governor-General’s office.
John spent decades working behind the scenes for the Galong community, volunteering across local organisations, supporting older residents, strengthening civic life and ensuring traditions like ANZAC Day services and Clean Up Australia Day continued year after year.
He has held leadership roles with the Galong and District Progress Association, served for more than 30 years as Board Secretary at St Lawrence Home Retirement Village, and acted as a Justice of the Peace for 45 years. He is described by those who know him as dependable, modest and deeply committed to community over recognition.
He was delighted to be featured in The Young Witness, as well as for his son, John Jr, to be interviewed by The Daily Advertiser and Twin Town Times.
