International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day 2016

  • Read in Less than a minute

Mercy Health will pause to remember the lives of babies lost, at any age, on Saturday 15 October during International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day.

Sadly, each year in Australia approximately 2,000 babies are stillborn and another 850 babies die shortly after birth. A further one in five pregnancies ends in miscarriage.

International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day recognises the profound sadness of losing a baby and the impact it can have on families, often for the rest of their lives.

Mercy Hospital for Women and Werribee Mercy Hospital invite families to attend public reflection services to acknowledge and honour their experiences of miscarriage, stillbirth or the death of a baby.

These services will be held at:

Mercy Hospital for Women, Multifaith chapel, level 2

  • time for quiet reflection and candle lighting, 2–2.30pm
  • short reflection service and candle lighting, 2.30–3pm

Werribee Mercy Hospital, Multifaith chapel

  • time for quiet reflection and candle lighting, 2–2.30pm
  • short reflection service and candle lighting, 2.30–3pm

Anyone affected by the loss of a baby is warmly invited to attend any of these services or to simply light a candle on this day.

The International Wave of Light is held on 15 October each year.
