From medical student to Director of Medical Services: a lifelong journey of Mercy.
Mercy Health has announced the appointment of Dr Gillian Paulsen MBBS (Hons), MPH, FRANZCOG, AFRACMA as Director of Medical Services at Mercy Hospital for Women.
Dr Paulsen brings more than two decades of connection with Mercy Hospital for Women, having first trained at the organisation as a medical student before progressing through roles as resident doctor, specialist consultant, Head of Unit and, most recently, Clinical Director of Obstetrics.
In her new role, Dr Paulsen will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer to lead the hospital’s medical workforce, working closely with clinical leaders and multidisciplinary teams across obstetrics, gynaecology, neonatology, medical imaging and anaesthetics to support care that is safe, connected, effective and personal. She will continue to undertake clinical work, maintaining a direct connection with patients and frontline teams.

Alongside her extensive clinical and leadership experience, Dr Paulsen has undertaken advanced training in medical administration and leadership, achieving Associate Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators and currently completing a Master of Health Leadership and Management.
Mercy Hospital for Women Executive Director Tanya Darrer welcomed the appointment.
