Music making a difference for our tiniest patients

We’re excited to be trialling a new music therapy program in the neonatal unit at Mercy Hospital for Women, led by neonatologist and researcher Dr Natalie Duffy alongside registered music therapist Lauren Salib.

Launched as a research pilot, the program explores how music therapy can support babies and families in the NICU and Special Care Nursery. The initiative aims to enhance infant neurodevelopment, help parents feel more connected with their baby, ease stress and anxiety, and create moments of calm during an incredibly vulnerable time.

This program is made possible thanks to the support of Miracle Babies Foundation, in partnership with LA Therapy, and is delivered at Mercy Hospital for Women in Heidelberg with the support of Miracle Babies’ corporate partner, Chiesi.

Seeing the comfort and connection music can bring to families is a powerful reminder of why compassionate, family‑centred care matters so much. This work feels especially meaningful as we mark World Music Therapy Week (10–15 April), shining a light on the powerful role music can play in health and healing.

A special thank you to our partners for their collaboration and shared commitment to caring for our smallest and most vulnerable patients.
